Hi Bruce. First of all I wanted to thank you for your comments. It is so hard to find folks doing any LW "SWL'ing" that when I get to meet someone like you who has a like interest I get excited. I feel for you and your QRM situation. That is a shame because being on the east coast, right on the coast, you have a good 10-15 dB advantage then us Midwesterners. I remember when I got out of school and got my first job in northern Va right near the Chesapeake bay I put up a 40m dipole at 80' and I was TOTALLY blown away at the stations I could finally hear and work barefoot compared to just being able to tell faint voices were present back in Michigan, even with phased verticals. The difference in propagation and one less hop was very, very noticeable. Anyway, what you said in your post about not being able to pull out voices hit the nail on the head. I am going to post something later today that I have finally figured out about Algeria on 153 kHz. It has been driving me nuts for several years but I think I finally found an answer. 153 kHz ALWAYS has the strongest carrier out of all the remaining LWBC stations from my location here in Indiana. Yet their modulation is WAY, WAY down there compared to the other stations. But I think I found out why (pure speculation on my part). More in a later post.....right now I need to fire up the New Holland and plow 6"-8" of snow. 73 Gedas W8BYA
