All good tips Ed. The shorted far end termination is an easy test to try. It's quite difficult to install ground rods here. Lots of rock not too far down. That's why I had to use the auto-transformer method. I did manage to place a ground rod near the foundation of the home. I have the two coax cables from the verticals run to a "pass-through" grounding block at that rod, so the shields get tied to ground there. From that rod are short runs of coax into the shack. That helped with the noise.

Good on the txfmr-longwire combination. Wish I could do the same here but can't put the wire out since I have cows in the field that would trip on it or take it down. :-(

Btw, since I last wrote, I re-wired the bino in the canceller from its 2/8 turns ratio to 5/20 turns. I'm testing it now. I'll get back to you on the results of the change.
